Acne Scars

Acne Scars Treatment

For some, acne is an embarrassment that ends with adolescence. But for others, long-lasting scars form, causing diminished self-confidence and insecurity that can even harm one’s relationships with others.

Infections that cause acne to form result in enlarged pores, sometimes to the extent that the follicle wall is damaged. When that damage is severe enough, the infection can spread, eventually causing a lesion that allows a scar to form.

Vascular Lesions

What is a Vascular Lesion on the Skin

Many skin conditions, such as port-wine stains, cherry angiomas and hemangiomas, rosacea, and broken capillaries, can make going out a pain for affected persons who are worried people might stare or comment. These conditions come from the formation of blood vessels beneath the skin that can then be seen by the naked eye at the skin’s surface. These will not disappear over time and require treatment if one wants them to go away.

What Can I expect:

  • Many procedures, like hair removal, require several sessions before treatment will take its full effect. For example, treatment for hair removal must take place at multiple times when the hair follicles are in their active growth phases.
  • Some issues can be solved in one treatment, but this is dependent on the severity and size of the problem.
  • To promote safety for our patients, we ask those undergoing laser treatment to wear protective eyewear in the clinic.
  • To reduce your discomfort during treatment, laser pulses may be preceded by quick pulses of cool spray. Patients sometimes describe this discomfort as being similar to having a hair tie or rubber band snapped on the skin. However, not everyone feels this discomfort, and our cooling devices resolve it quickly.
  • The length of a treatment can range from a few minutes to an hour depending on the procedure.

How you can prepare:

  • Before hair removal treatment, refrain from waxing, plucking, and electrolysis for a period of six weeks before being treated.
  • If you have a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for laser treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
  • Shave, clean, and thoroughly dry your skin.
  • Clean your skin thoroughly, getting rid of any makeup, oils, tanning lotions and products, creams, or topical medications.
  • Products that aggressively treat dermatological conditions, like benzoyl peroxides, glycolics, and retinols, should not be applied to the skin being treated within 72 hours of treatment.
  • Don’t expose your skin, once treated, to the sun or other sources of UV rays, such as a tanning salon. You can protect yourself by using sunscreen with a strength of SPF 30 or higher.
